What is Spotify Lite?

Spotify Lite, now only in beta, is an optimized version of the Spotify app. It has a similar user interface to the main app, but it also has a few differences. Spotify Lite is now available in 36 markets in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America and is an accessible version of the main app with special features like less memory, battery, and data to optimize performance, making it ideal for older devices and operating systems.

Spotify Lite works the same as the main Spotify app — you can find and play your favorite songs and artists, save, share, discover new music, enjoy playlists, and more. As of now, it’s currently it is only available on Android devices.

Let’s take a look at the main differences between Spotify Lite and the main Spotify app.

1. Main interface

The Spotify Lite and the main Spotify app are quite similar to the main interface. However, the main difference is in the bottom navigation bar: Spotify Lite shows Home, Search, and Favorites buttons, while Spotify Lite shows Home, Search, and Your Library. Also Spotify Lite lacks the podcast feature.

2. Settings

Spotify Lite’s “Settings” menu is also fairly straightforward and lacks detailed controls such as volume and music quality. In Spotify Lite, you can only check the amount of mobile data used by the app and the space used by the app. The Lite version also allows you to adjust the audio quality while the song is playing, depending on the amount of data you can save. You can also set a monthly data usage limit of 250MB, 500MB, 750MB, 1GB, 2GB, and 3GB.

Whereas in the main Spotify app, you can perform all the detailed checks including offline mode, login, social features, filters, volume levels, music quality, etc.

3. Application size

The main reason for using Spotify Lite is that the app only takes 9.4MB of space. However, Spotify (full version) requires 28MB. This is suitable for users who have limited storage space on their devices.

4. Connect to devices

Spotify Lite doesn’t have Spotify Connect, a feature that uses Wi-Fi to stream music to other devices, including smart speakers like Echo and Chrome cast. Whereas Spotify Connect is part of the main Spotify app.

5. Offline mode

When you upgrade to Spotify Premium, you can download any song for offline listening. However, there is no offline mode in the Spotify Lite version, even if you are a premium user. Also, specific songs cannot be selected, even for premium subscribers as; all music must be played via shuffle.
